Colo River Update

Fellow Shooters,

In reference to recent comments posted on Benchrest Bulletin on how we can attract more shooters to our sport, if anyone ever recalls, Peter Armstrong mentioned several times, when the big shift started within the Sydney Branch, about concentrating on our own Benchrest Shooting and possibly looking to start our own range.

Well this has now come to a reality with the settling of a 15yr lease on 100 acres of pristine bush setting! Construction of the “Sign In’ office and the Men/Women bathroom facility (yet to be fitted out) has been built with electrical works going in this weekend.

After many meetings between Peter, Kerry, Jason and John we have put into place for all competitions that all yardages will have Top 10 patches with the Top 3 to receive medals. We will have a $1.00 all day cup of coffee/tea on the firing line and will supply a free BBQ breakfast at each competition. Lunch and dinners will also be available at the range at very reasonable prices.

We are just this week finalising our Insurances for Colo Benchrest Rifle Club and then will be affiliating with an Association other than the SSAA. This will give CBRC an approval by Registry as a registered club to shoot competition along with hunting/vermin control with a Genuine Reason to hold a Shooters License.

A proposed shooting calendar is attached and we at CBRC will cater for both centrefire and rimfire along with an added attraction of having a ‘factory’ and ‘custom’ class to be run together at our monthly Club Comps in the hope of attracting more shooters over to our sport.
We are implementing a Junior Program and Junior only competition with favourable responses by the Juniors and their parents we have approached to date.

We encourage all to put forward your thoughts and responses on this forum or alternatively contact us at cbrc1@bigpond.com – weekend working bees are carried out almost every weekend so please send in your contact details and availability if you would like to help out at anytime. We encourage happy team building for one of the best ranges in the country! Just remember, this range is for ‘us’ and it is up to all of us to help and support CBRC so can come back the days of pork snags and a few beverages at the end of the day.

Kind regards,
Peter, Kerry, Jason and John

Glad to hear that its almost up and running. When do you think the range will open? If you need some photos of the place, i have a drone that could be used to take some aerial photos of the place to show everyone what it looks like. Will CRBC have its own Facebook group or website or will all info regarding comps still be on this site?

Cheers Michael

Hi there some Rimfire/General questions ?

May i ask a couple of questions please..Great move by the way so congratulations to all..

Which Association so we know what sort of shooting will take place ? (so we know what we could promote or put forward)
How many benches ? (again so we know what size comp could be run)
What meters/yards ? (as above)
Is there Camping or Hotel nearby ? (For the possibility of 2 day comps )
How often would it be open ?

Range discription

Just a bit of a run down about the range .
It will have 25 benches with yardages ar 50,100,200,300 .
The range is an easy going 40 min drive from Windsor in Sydneys outer western suburbs on the Putty road so access to many hotels and a major tourist town is very easy . I would say the range would be about 1.5 hours from Newcastle , that's just and estimate, good if someone from up there would drive down and let us know
Council at this very early stage hasn't aloud the range to have what you would call a Registered camping ground but I can say there is enough room to house many many tents and camper vans.
The range also has a massive reloading reloading shed with kitchen facilities and is big enough to sleep 20/30 people easily in the event of a large gathering. But one would need to bring a swag or similar.
For the first 3 months it is open on a Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 5 .
After that probationary period council are more than willing to expand opening times based on positive feedback
Ian not in the position to say which association the range will be affiliated with but it is an affiliation only and not a dictatorship . Petes goal is to set it up and run shoots that target shooters want to shoot at .
He is open to all ideas and is happy to consider any type of comp style if that's what the majority want .
In the early post they asked for suggestions and feedback , so I guess here's the chance to have a little input into a range designed and run by benchrest shooters .

Sounds good

What would make it good, is if everyone tried to have go at both .
I am sure most centrefire shooters own a 22LR of some sought and I am sure most rimfire shooters own some sought of centrefire rifle.
Easy way to split it up is have 2 catergories in each event, a factory class and a target rifle class .
So I guess it's about how we do that ?
Who knows, it could become a massive annual target shooting gala
A smorgasbord of rimfire and centrefire shooting all in one weekend.

i like it

Rob Carnell i will share my rimfire gear with you and hopefully i can play with your centrefire gear...

Teams

Well Bill looks like your picking a team member already lol.
I never thought of that but maybe a teams combined trophy could be fun also.
2 member teams battling other teams for the grand prize.
A great way to learn about each discipline.
If it came about, the Elliot's from BRT would a tough team to beat
