Equipment lists

Years ago we were able to see equipment lists mainly from comps held at Silverdale. How come we dont get to see the lists anymore? New shooters like my self would like to see what equipment everyone else is using for all the different classes.

Equipment Lists

Sometimes they are provided in the results, I think in the 2Gun report, but I can find one. Maybe I have seen them occasionally at a shoot.
I am not sure there is a report for you to look at online, but if you know someones name you can look at what they last updated in the Equipment portal
Go to "Other Stuff" menu and then equipment portal
You can then put in some ones name (Write down there competitor number) as you need to put it in again. Then you can see what they last input as there equipment.
A good place to start would be the top 10 of the 2Gun of the Nationals and see what the system says they were using. Not always true, as it always isn't updated.

Maybe Rob can write a report, you would have to ask.

Anything in particular you want to know?

Gday Michael, Thanks for you

Gday Michael, Thanks for you reply. I'll have a look at that section you mentioned. Nothing in particular i wanted to know, just curious as to what everyone else is using regarding scope power and projectile powder combo's. Being new to the sport, i was wondering if people are using fixed power scopes or variables. I was at the range yesterday and under cloud cover i could see the target clearly but once the sun came out the mirage killed me.Now im wondering if a variable power scope would help in that situation.
cheers

An interesting question

An interesting question Michael.
When I shot my first Nationals in 1976, most BR shooters were using a Lyman 20x or perhaps a Leupold 24x. Mirage was not really a problem with these.
As the years rolled on, scope power has increased to the point where some long range shooters (and even short range) are using up to 80x.
I shot with an 80x scope at 1000 yards and the mirage was tolerable.
Although many shooters use a fixed power scope, there are now some pretty high class variables available, such as the March 36 - 55x and the March 10 -60x.
I use a fixed 48x on my light gun and a 10- 60x on the heavy. Usually put it at full power but if the mirage is really bad, such as at Canberra, then yes I do wind it down a bit.

Just remember that mirage can be your friend as a mirage shift indicating a wind shift will show up often before the flags tell you. Shooting in mirage is a bit of an art - I personally enjoy it.
Like all other things in benchrest, experience is the great teacher, and practice will make you a better shooter.

Equipment

Michael,

When Rob gets the report going you will most likely see:
Scopes: Most will be using some sort of fixed power. Leupold Comp 40 or 45, March 40, 50 0r 48X,, 10-60 Variable or EPZoom Variable or Nightforce 42x
Barrels: will be Krieger, Bartlein, Shilen or Maddco, but mainly the first two
Actions: BAT 2L or 3L, Kelbly Panda mainly with the odd Nesika, Borden or Farley
Stocks: Scoville, Scarborough, Kelbly,
Bullets: Custom Australian, Custom from USA or Bergers
Powder: N133 (Til people run out), BM2 or H322
Tuners: Some use a Tuner
Get yourself some good wind flags (Either make them or Buy some from BRT)

If I was starting out I would use BM2 and learn it the best I could. Get a good custom bullet either from here or USA and another type of bullet either custom or Berger.
Then go to as many matches you can, find yourself a mentor. I would have suggested a BRT training course but I think Stuart and Annie have stopped these, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
And just enjoy the comps and the people you meet along the way.

Cheers
Michael

Thanks Brendan, Michael and

Thanks Brendan, Michael and Rob.
I'll look at the equipment list you described. Michael, i have just about everything you mentioned and more. I have flags, but yet to use them. I have custom projects, both local and US made. One of my Pandas i use BM2 and local projectiles my new build im trying Ar2219 and US custom projectiles. Im waiting for the Colo Benchrest club to open, ive joined the club now just waiting. And if i can get this new rifle to shoot well i might enter the Australia day shoot.

Brendan, i was looking into the 10-60's march scopes. But im waiting on a set of scales to arrive to see how much weight i have to spare. I may need to skeletonize the scope rings to save weight or find somewhere else to save some weight. Until i learn to read the wind and cope with mirage a variable may be a solution. I'll see what happens.

Thanks again.

Good luck with that!

Its hard to get much weight out of rings.

From memory the March 40x and

From memory the March 40x and the Leupold 45x are about the same weight, but the 10- 60 is a few ounces heavier.
