2019 TRA/RBA National Championships Nominations

I have taken over the role of managing the nominations as well as the scoring for the event.
Below there will be an up to date list of the ones I have received. The rule is if I don't have a form from you, irrespective of who you've told or agreed to share with, you aren't nominated.

Also the original forms were incorrect with the fees. The TRA $10 fee is an event fee and the $35 is a daily fee. It is explained in the brochure attached to an electronic entry form on the left hand side of the Forum page.

As there are only 2 details each of Light Air, Heavy Air, International Sporter and Light Rimfire(2 matches in a day), 3 way sharing is not a possibility. It may be for heavy but we'll look at the numbers closer to the close of entries.

I have also setup a Facebook group (2019 Australian RBA Benchrest Championships) to manage any questions you may have. Request to join if you want to follow what's going on and the preparations for the event.

Neil

EDIT Sunday 3 November 2019

Yesterday I emailed everyone whose entry I have received, a draft of the bench draw for each match.

If you did not receive an email from The Hornets Club then please email me ASAP at hornetsrbaclub@outlook.com and I'll try and sort out the problem.

If you did get the email, please review those matches which you have entered, to:

1. Make sure your name is one the list. If it's not then I do not have your nomination.
2. Make sure that any sharing arrangements you requested are reflected in the draw.

You have until close of business next Wednesday (6/11/19) to request any changes. All requests will be considered provided it does no inconvenience any other shooter or is was my mistake.

A request to change benches/details because you do not like the smell of the aftershave on the next bench might just receive the quick flick so don't bother wasting either of our time.

On Thursday morning I'll print the 864 labels and start attaching them to targets. Once this process has started, you'll need a very strong argument to have a change made.

The last thing any of us needs, is someone turning up at the event and finding out they are either not in the game or their sharing arrangements are incorrect. You certainly do not need that stress.

Waiting

Just hang in there Knighty I'm sure it will be worth waiting for. Rob has to earn a living so work takes precedence. Not like us retired folk who have all the time in the world. Well maybe not that much more time.

Looking for an air rifle & international sporter

We have a junior, Patrick Simpson who has entered the Nationals but would love to shoot air and international sporter. Problem is he doesn't have either so I'm looking for someone who does, is coming and is willing to share to give this young fella a go.
Are you up for it? If you are send me message and I'll gladly arrange it.

Sharing

Thanks to Michael Schneider, Patrick now has air and sporter sorted.
Now Mel Frost needs some assistance for the same matches. She was going to share with mum and Glen but as there are only 2 details, 3 way sharing isn't possible and Mel got the flick. So much for motherly love.

Start practicing

In case you boys and girls haven't noticed, Harry Fuller has nominated for all the matches except Heavy Rimfire. I'm thinking he's being gracious enough to leave a match for someone else to win.
Known and around the world as the Air Guru, you'd all better start practicing, Cause Harry's a coming for ya.
Good to see you back.

Juniors

Mums Dads Coaches let's give as many Juniors a chance to represent their Country in CZ 2021 at the WRABF World Cup. I assume we will again take a Team of 3 Juniors and those 3 will have the time of their lives. RBA-WRABF is the International route for 5 events maybe 6 soon and is the best opportunity for Juniors to make it on the World Stage.

Roy Muller

I've just been informed that Roy is back in the hospital in Brisbane and will not be attending the Nationals.
He was struck down with GBD in July which stopped him from going to South Africa as a part of the Australian Team. After some time in the Brisbane hospital he was transferred to Maryborough where he made good progress to the point that he was about to be released.
It appears that he suffered a relapse and is now back where he started in July in similar condition.
Anyone who knows Roy will understand that this is a terrible blow for a very active person.

Doing it tough

I have spoken to Marg several times now about Roy. She is feeling the strain because Roy is all but paralysed and is unable to do much himself. He was going well and was on his feet with a walker but sadly had a major relapse and is now in a serious state. We can only hope he will recover but it will be a very tough battle for him.
We wish you well mate and hope like he'll you can kick this bug out and make it walk. We want to see you back on the range soon.

Is there any information on the actual qualifying rules for 2021 WRABF team ? Would be good to know what they are ? Hopefully they will be set in stone and not changed along the way like the last set of qualifying rules for 2019

It's a fair question

And needs to be answered, so who's going to answer it Nick Sullivan, Neil Digweed or someone else from the Rba Committee it's dragged on long enough to be honest.

I emailed everyone on that committee before the 2018 nationals questioning how they could change advertised qualifications for South Africa 2019 and not one reply ! I think as members we hold a vote of no confidence on our current Rba committee and get some people on there that actually give a damn and will be representing the shooters not just doing what they like !

Suggestion

To the committee a simple qualifying system could be the top 9 air 2gun and top 9 rimfire 3 gun make up ur 3 teams of three , also means ur taking ur best all round shooter to represent our country

GJS
selections

Scott, you may get the best all round and consistent shooters but may miss out on the best specialist shooters. Some of the best heavy shooters don't shoot sporter etc. so wouldn't have a chance of a spot.

My thoughts of taking the top nine for each category just makes qualification simple and fair for everyone if some shooters are specialists and don’t shoot sporter i’m sure they would if it was the rules and they wanted to qualify for the team if their scores were good enough in heavy and light and average in sporter They would still make the top nine in the three gun

Guys

No matter how the team is picked it will be good for some and not so good for others.

If you look at the current rule book it’s structured as individual matches, there are awards but no medals for any of the 2 or 3 gun matches, so you need to be pickings specialist for each class.

I’m not saying this is how it should be done, but some have asked me if I was running things how would I go about team selection and this is my answer.

I’d give the top 9 qualifiers in each class the option to go. Some might not like the idea of going and only shooting in one class, I’d point out to them that’s all they qualified for. Some would drop out and say it’s a HV shooter then whoever on the sporter/LV teams has the highest HV qualifying score would get to shoot in the HV match and so on.

Qualifying would be easy to understand, finish in the top 9 in any class and you have the option of being on the team.

Yes at the end of the day the qualifying system doesn’t matter all we really want is to know what the hell they are and that they are set in stone and not gonna change halfway through

Brett
I agree, the lack of information is not good.

I have withdrawn from shooting RBA nationals this year, two of the reasons why are
1: Lack of information, now I might have missed something but I check TRA website and facebook weekly looking for information and have not seen anything.
2: The current Australian team selection that changed mid stream to make it shootings version of Under 6s soccer presentation, everbody gets an Australian shirt. There is very little prestige in making this team at the moment.

Peter Armstrong Mk1
Brett

Brett

Back when I owned RBA I had to run the qualifying for 2 world championships teams and the biggest problem is getting enough people interested in going and given most are self funded so the qualifying can’t be too hard. To make a IRB team is a lot harder but RBA has always been the soft option and that’s just how it is.

For some just making a team for a world championships is the objective and there is nothing wrong with that. For me making a team was just a stepping stone to my next medal and I treated each time on a team as being maybe my last and I wasn’t going to waste it. All this type of stuff I’d have written down and read it daily. Because I stayed focused on the important stuff every time I was on a team I came home with a medal, one time it was a team silver, every other time I had a gold medal in my pocket. My point is if a shooter is total focused on winning a medal he doesn’t notice the political crap going on and if he’s looking at the political crap he’s not focused enough on winning a medal.

Peter A few things have changed since you were with Rba 2015,16 and 2017 Rba Nationals Had anywhere from 100 to 130 shooters at each event so now qualifying becomes a lot harder so people who are focused would like to know the rules for qualification before the first national event we don’t want to balls up like we did prior to the 2019 team selection

Peter Armstrong Mk1
Scott

Scott
It doesn’t seem like those running RBA these days have the support of the shooters, their is just no trust there and showing them the door might be good thing.

The thing to remember is those with the best scores will be on the team and if I wanted to make this team I’d be totally focused on the shooting part and I’d stay away from all the drama until after the nationals, then it would be time to give them an ear full.

I started RBA back in 2004 and handed over to the smallbore in 2011 and I still get people asking me would I consider coming back and running RBA again, if they are trying to drag me into running it, things can’t be going that good.

Opportunity to get heard

"At the most recent TRA Ltd Board meeting, held on 31st August / 1st September, directors resolved Directors resolved to hold a meeting with all Presidents of TRA Member Organisations on 26th October (funded by TRA)in order to raise issues and obtain feedback concerning a proposed restructure for Target Rifle Australia Ltd.

Member Organisations are reminded that the Board of Directors has convened a Meeting of Presidents of all Member Organisations of Target Rifle Australia Ltd. will be held as follows:"

An opportunity to make sure your president attends with your concerns?

From memory i think the TRA RBA or benchrest committee may have been dissolved or something for a short while?
Stay calm, try to be civil. It's frustrating when concerns are not addressed.
The impression i get is TRA & some clubs are mainly focused on position shooting. We don't shoot the RBA target over West because the clubs seem to like an easier target & that can be hard to change.

A new thread on what & how benchrest is shot on another thread would be good as long as it civil. There seems to be a few associations & about 5 different national champs. A triple crown sort of deal to find the best of the best would be huge & cool.

2 Peters Clarification

PETER A, i tend to agree that IRB is harder to qualify but in saying that anyone that makes the top 9 in IRB or RBA is still shooting with pretty much the same people and has earned their right as easily or as hard in either event, where it gets easier is RBA u have 5 chances for 5 events as it was last year to get into an Aussie RBA Team in IRB you only have 1.

PETER O, the The RBA Committee has not been abandoned and as i understand it they are actively working on getting out qualifying asap before the RBA Nationals. I believe the committee may have an open session with shooters in Brisvegas too, they are as far as i know Nick Sullivan, Neil Digweed, Mick Schneider, Sonia Frost, Glenn Seaman, Darren Morgan and Richard Lightfoot.

RBA Nationals entry fees

Just a reminder Guys and Gals that entries close tomorrow (October 31st).
Many entries have been received but not all are yet paid. So, please check your emails because Niel has sent everyone who has entered an email (using the email you placed on the nomination entry form).
His email will be from Hornets Club if you need to search for it. If no email found then email or message us urgently.
Below is an example of his form email which he has sent out individually. Because the amounts vary individually depending on what you entered. His emails also provide the bank account details you need (purposely deleted on the below example)
So please make sure you get your payments done to confirm your entry!
Because some classes are about full and non payment means technically you could be on a "wait list". You need your payment done to confirm your entry and we don't want anyone missing out. Look forward to seeing you all up here in Brisvegas. I will post further information later about your "destination arrival". LOL
Thanks, Stuart
(Hornets Club President)

Annie & Stuart,

Thank you for your nominations for the 2019 RBA Nationals. Although they have been received, your nominations will not be confirmed until the fees have been paid.

The Treasurer would prefer you transfer the funds prior to the close of business on 1st November 2019. Please be aware that there are NO EFTPOS facilities at the range.

Payment will guarantee your place in the competition.

There was some confusion in the early stages when an entry form containing in-correct fees was initially released. Shoot fees are calculated on a daily basis irrespective of how many matches you shoot on that day. The TRA fee is a once off fee for the competition.

Unfortunately, for those who used Benchrest Bulletin to nominate, the practice day option was not included as a match and therefore we do not necessarily know if you will be attending on the Wednesday.

According to the information you have provided, your fees for the competition will be:

1 off TRA fee - $10.00ea

Thursday – Practice - $15.00ea

Friday – Light Air, Heavy Air - $35.00ea

Saturday – International Sporter, Light Rimfire - $35.00ea

Sunday – Heavy Rimfire - $35.00ea

2 x Spit Roast on Saturday night - $20.00ea = $40.00
