Great Fun

Had a terrific time on Saturday and Sunday with my mates at Warwick this weekend
I decided to drive up there on Saturday morning and nearly didn't make the start time as there were road works etc
Though I did leave at five o'clock in morning.
This put me into hyper drive when I arrived having to get my rifle weighted and paying and signing shooting register etc
To make it busier for the first time in a long time I was in the first relay.

Once all that was finished I have to say that I don't think that my rifle has ever shot better with the new ammo that I recently tested
Digs very nicely picked it up for me on his way up to Warwick on Friday as I was working trying to get a site prep finished and wouldn't be able to shoot without it.
I know I have probably said it before but he is a truly great mate and legend and has helped so many people on this forum over the last couple of years.

We shot Hunter class first and the conditions were really flaming cold apparently it was minus 3 degrees in the morning, this affects the way the rifle shoots and makes it hard to keep your ammo warm. Again on Sunday morning according to Normys new trucks dash gauge it was minus 3 degrees which required a two sleeping bag sleep.
The boys sat around the roaring fire telling some pretty good yarns and poor jokes half the night, again this is always fun at a country shoot.

Chris Parry who always shoots well with his new Micky Truscott wonder rifle was of course not used to this cold at all coming all the way down from North Queensland but started with a first card of 50 with 5 dots. Rifle can sure shoot as it set a new Australian record for IRB of 250 with 23 dots in the state titles earlier this year and lots of 250s.
There were four details so we all had a good chance to talk about the ones that got away from us in between cards.
Native Hunter Damien shot really well all weekend and it is great to have him back shooting with us, came second overall and first in 100 yards section
Simon Schultz placed third overall and this was really impressive shooting as he has only been shooting for about a year and is getting better all the time.

Sunday was IRB and the competition was fierce with Team KAOS getting five of the top eight spots. Congratulations to Norm coming second, Sully third and Digs who ran out of ammo on his last eight shots and paying dearly for it coming fourth having to use pretty ordinary ammo . Caden got eighth and Tony did pretty well but can't remember his placing
So Team KAOS were well represented with Digs, Normy, Tony, Sully, Caden and myself and the bunny ears were being shifted around as nearly all got a chance to wear them at some stage.

The shoot was run very well by the Warwick club and they did themselves and their club proud .
Thank you from all the competitors for your wonderful efforts, we were very well fed on both days ,the whole organisation of the shoot and presentation of the club was first rate.

The wind was not as hard as it has been in the past but it sure was "tricky dicky" as I swear that sometimes the bullets went right, on a right to left wind.
This range is always a challenge with its uneven layout (on the side of a hill). But lets face its never boring. Plus with the extremely cold weather to warm days you have to deal with the up and down affects that this does to the bullets. (cold air vortex)

Will attach scores tomorrow

kind regards Ben

Good job to Ben and Dig

I like reading the right ups from you guys. Almost like I was there shooting.
I guess you don't shoot light rifle in the north.

Light Rifle

Yes we do Kimbo but for the Rose City shoot it's 2 matches for Heavy guns as not everyone has a light rifle. The last event at Warwick was a light on saturday and a heavy sunday for the Qld Champs.

Done and Dusted

So the shoot has been run and won by the great Benny West.
Overall winner of the Hunter on Saturday and again on Sunday in the IRB.
Even a raid over the border by Don Powell and Damien Webb couldn't stop The Jet. Damien was on a mission but just fell a little short. No lack of confidence though around the fire on Friday night. We'll have to keep an eye on this bloke. Looks like a great asset for Team Control.
By my calcs, Ben now jumps into 9th place in SotY with some minor re-arrangement of the 4th to 7th placings. Sully of course seems to have an unassailable lead if he continues to turn up.
Great to see a number of first time shooters at the event. Than to Don for his 8 1/2 drive to the shoot.
As always the club put on a great shoot except they left the door of the fridge open too often. -3 Saturday morning and -4 Sunday.
I'll let Benny give you a shot by shot review of the event as he does that better than I.
And before I forget, Team KAOS took out 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placing in the IRB with a 4 point spread.

Something special I forgot to mention

Special mention to all that knew and loved Bobby Blacklock
His Son Michael and grandson Marley attended the shoot at Warwick on the weekend.
The pair of them are both very decent blokes and terrific shots which is what you would expect with Bob as there dad and grandfather.
They also came along last night to the Brisbane club night and kicked butt ,so great to have them shooting with us
We are now claiming them as Queenslanders even though that may not be the case ?
Just getting that out there.
Digs reckons that Bob may have seen them kick our butts and smiled last night
Johnny Radford rang me and reckoned that Digs was right.
We all miss him at every shoot.
