G'Day Steve,
a 1:8" twist 27" maddco is what i use with Sierra 107's. Heavier bullets are avaialble but you will need a faster twist. Besides there are numerous bullets available in the 100-108gn range for F class/LR shooting.
I haven't chronied my load yet but estimate 3100fps based on elevations out to 500m.
I use 2209 and CCI magnum primers, start around 37.5gn and work up. I got to 39.5gns in my Hall with a small firing pin and was getting light cratering of the primer. 2213sc is another prefered powder.
The rifle/load shoots a whole lot like a 6PPC on steroids! Bloody Bewdiful!
G'day Steve,
these cases will get a soft bump from a Redding comp FLS bushing die to give around 1-2thou max resize. The bolt lift on the Hall is reasonably soft even with the slight cratering on the primer (firing pin has been bushed and is smaller than the std Hall f/pin diameter)so I know I can stoke it up if needed. Firstly, I'll fire (season) the cases 3 time before I up the load to see if i can get more out of them, much like a ppc case.
Either way the performance is right up there where I want it. So it is all good!
sorry dont know of any gain twist barrel makers..........
Thanks for that Mick, I had already read that article, I was just speculating if anyone had recently tried one of these "Gain Twist" barrels and what was the outcome, as long range shooting is such a different animal compaired to short range benchrest.
Also Geoff, I get 3050 out of my Improved 6BR with 105 Bergers and need to FLS every shot, how hard is your load on your brass to get 3100, are you FLS or just necking your cases.

Just wondering how much free bore would be needed for a 6br to run 105ish scenars or match kings
