Eley/Xact.??

G'day All,
Has anyone wondered why Nioa no longer imports X-act but I hear they are just about to start importing Eley shotty shells.???
Could it be that we here in OZ may have a distributor that has the capital and the monopoly of the OZ retail trade that we may see an Eley test range in OZ.??
Who Knows.??

Supply

I don't know the story obviously but Eley rimfire ammo is hard to get and is first in with the cash wins, no disrespect to TRA but with NIOA distributing does this mean we can expect to see Eley Black and Tennex on LGS shelves? Will we have a better supply chain?

Price

Will be interesting to see what happens to the price of Eley Rimfire Ammo when Nioa has the dealer ship. Up or Down your guess?

Slight digression

Hello Bill,

A slight move, I have seen the photo of you at the test range.
Would you tell me how recoil is countered please?
Does the rifle and mount move or is it held solid and the mass absorbs the energy?

I would like to build a benchrest mount for the indoor facility at Belmont.

Thanks and regards,
Dennis :)

Benchrest mount

It's not hard to make a mount that allows the rifle to recoil.

Lapua tested my rifle in Schonebeck using such a jig. My rifle was barrel-clamped into a mount that was fixed to sliding rails, which were dampened by springs on a mount captured by a vice on the bench.

Just a bit of accurate machining is required.

The rifle was free-recoiled during testing, but the total movement was only about 5mm if that.

I don't like the idea of

I don't like the idea of mounting the barrel in the vice as it will dampen the vibrations differently to in the stock. If the action could be held in the vice then it would be the same as held in the stock.
I just had an idea. Inlet and pillar bed a block of wood to put in the vice and we can call it a stock.

Try this link. It looks like a good concept and easy to make.
A mill vice.
A short bearing track.
A piece of aluminium machined to suit your action..

Testing.

How do you guys test and tune at the moment? I know the PRX system has been used up north. With some success . What about the rest of you guys?
My heavy is going OK but there is always room for improvement .Cant be complacent Need to do more testing.
What do you guys recommend?

Its a shame Nioa wont be

Its a shame Nioa wont be distributing Eley rimfire ammo...TRA better pull their fingers out...they will destroy a good companies reputation the way they distribute their ammo.

Eley

G"day All,
Your correct Bill, I Spoke to Nioa last week and they are not taking it on now.
Apparently Eley received to many complaints about the supposed price rise.
So mit looks like it stays with TRA.

G"day Bill,
We received the price list from Nioa today and it appears the price is very slightly cheaper if not the same price.
If Nioa can supply a list of inventory with batch and speeds im sure it will all work out better than it has been.
Time will tell and as you say ,It wont be available through Nioa till early new year.

Batches

So you use the test range and can't pick the batch. Sounds like they need to go back to the drawing board.
