SSAA Rules

Hi all, Fergus
There are rumors about a possible rule change for the rules around rimfire light (sporter) increase in weight and scope power, plus loose the magazine in hunter.
I thought the rule book was locked away in stone till 2018.
I only ask because some clients are not ordering sporters due to possible rule changes.

Hi Brett. There was a

Hi Brett.
There was a petition handed around at Silverdale early this year to get the light rimfire changed to be more inline with the RBA rules. 8.5lb. 6.5x scope and not sure about the mag.
The reason for this is so the RBA sporter can shoot beside the SSAA hunter class.
In my opinion we need more shooters and one way is to make both classes compatible and the RBA shooters won't loose3/4 of a pound so the SSAA class need to be able to raise its weight limit . 6 to 6.5x is no biggie.
If the SSAA rule makers can't look at these changes and see the sense in the changes then we might have a problem in the future trying to get shooters to shoot the SSAA light rifle. .
It needs to be done now not for the next rule book

I will get shot down for this but I don't care because I am committed to getting rimfire shooters to compete.

I change and then it changes to how I had it! ARGH

Most importantly tell me about stock width .
Is it still going to be two and a quarter inches or out to three inches?
This is really a hard pill to swallow when I just cut (Well actually Barry H did ) my stock down to two and a quarter inches.
Fergus could we please get a quick answer on this
Because I know a bloke building a SSAA light rifle at the moment and can save the stock probably.
kind regards Ben :((

Thanks Kim

Thats a load off.
The six and a half isn't be a big deal as its not much more though I have purchased a six power scope especially .
The weight will let us use a variable scope which makes it easier to get the gun tuned etc.
Makes a lot of sense to have one gun do both RBA and SSAA .
What about the tuner can we have it in both?
The magazine never made much sense to me, we don't use it anyway.
I hope this doesn't cost Brett a lot of money.
kin regards Ben

RBA has no barrel attachments

RBA has no barrel attachments (no tuner) but they back bore the muzzle to get the same effect though it is more stuffing around

Poll

Rob.
Would it be possible to set up a poll so the shooters could vote on weather they would like the SSAA light hunter and B/R classes to be modified so the RBA shooters can compete in SSAA comps with RBA guns.

Maybe

Kim,

I will do some research to see if this can be done.

However, since the SSAA rulebook was just ratified, I do not believe this could be changed anytime soon anyway.

Thanks Rob..
I think if there are enough players who want the rules changed then the rules should be changed for the good of the game.

Weights

I might be wrong but here goes.
SSAA Hunter traditional (light)
7lb 12 oz 2 1/4" forend 6x scope Magazine.
SSAA B/R as above no magazine.
SSAA custom Hunter 3" forend 14lb unlimited scope.

RBA Sporter. 8 1/2 lb. 6.5 x scope 2 1/4 forend.
LV 10 1/2 lb 3" forend unlimited scope
H/V 14lb 3" forend unlimited scope.
These are from memory so they may be corrected by someone else.

Poll

HI Robby, I can set up a poll on the Coffs SSAA website quite easily if you want me to host it, happy to help if required.

The National Hunter at Coffs has a lot of light shooters coming 48 from memory, so while the 6x scope is challenging the SSAA discipline seems to still be going OK. I can imagine a few of the shooters not wanting to give up their tuners ;0)

Hi Danny

We won't have to give up tuners to shoot Hunter. We just want to raise the weight limit a tad so the 8 1/2 lb guns can shoot as well. The more the merrier. Coffs is lucky because you get QLD shooters who mostly don't go to Sydney. There are RBA shooters in Sydney who can't shoot Hunter because there guns are 8 1/2 lb. So easy to fix.

Tuners

Kim, Which events can we not have tuners.
Thanks

sporter tune

Yes to all that, I use maths to get the required weight foward of the crown but trial and error works as well.
Yes Rob the rule is hard to enforce so the rules were re done, it now has to be a solid piece of metal however formed. Not certain on your invisable plug please describe it.
A pressure screw would be fine.
But were gave taken a side road, I guess the rules are set till 2018 like I thought.

Rules

Yes Brett. 25 posts and no ruling on possible rule changes.
2018 there could be no hunter class shooters left by then.
Bring on the poll.

Big in USA

The International sporter is big in the States and some of them shoot almost as well as HV. All are based on WRABF rules and are made accordingly. The big problem for most of us is the 6 or 6.5 power scope. Most of us cant see without having to carry a spotting scope. All this is extra gear to lug around and additional expense just for one class of rifle. I sold my International sporter because the proposal to increase the scope power to 12 didn't eventuate. The magazine seems a rather outdated and non essential rule with the way sporters are going. NSWARAI have a class for unaltered, over the counter bunny guns which are also called sporters. The whole sporter class seems a bit messy and is not conducive to encouraging shooters to participate. "Too many cooks spoil the broth", an old saying but oh so true. Fight on everyone, I hate peace!!!

Rules

You might be right Knighty.
I might be banging my head for nothing. Nobody has said if it would be a good idea or if they would come over from RBA to shoot SSAA and that's the whole reason I wanted a change.
If the shooters have spoken by their silence so be it.
iF tHERE WAS A CHANGE IN THE RULES would you come and shoot???????????.

Rules.

Brett.
Judging by the response to my last question there will be no rule changes in the near future so if I were you I would advise them to build a 7 3/4 lb with a mag and that will shoot ALL classes.

Silence

I know where you are coming from Kim and agree totally. I also think that there are a lot of shooters out there who don't look at benchrest Bulletin and if they do, don't want to say anything.

And no one has said they would come over from RBA if SSAA changed the rules so the RBA guns complied with SSAA rules.
That's me done!!!!!
I will shut the f&$@k up now.
