Advice Please

Posted on behalf of Peter Clarke

I currently have a FWB 2700 Alloy .22 rim-fire rifle (approx 2000 rds). Age is catching up with me and I am going to covert to shooting BR-3 .22 rim-fire bench rest. I am looking for practical solutions with regards to equipment etc.

Is it possible to convert my current FWB to bench rest (including provision for telescopic sights etc? if so are you are to advise the best person to do this and provide some idea as to cost.?) As an alternative I can sell (or trade) my FWB and purchase a new Anshutze BR 1913.

I will need it set up with a variable (up to 36/44 Max), a quality front adjustable rest and rear bag.

Having spent many years shooting both Full Bore and Small Bore it is a bit of a shock to realise that I know absolutely nothing about Bench rest.

Any assistance or advice that you can give to me will be very much appreciated

regards Peter Clarke

Hi peter I have seen many fwb rifles converted to benchrest ! in different ways the modifications have all looked different but serve the purpose, but I would recommend getting a proper benchrest stock for ur fwb . Or as u stated u could sell it and buy ur self a very nice benchrest rifle that is already set up and ready to go ! ( I do know or a very nice turbo that will soon be on the market very soon ).

welcome to the dark side

Peter, your fwb could well be up to the job with a simple stock modification, or better yet a stock change.
Stock options are not limited to but the current flavor people are useing are either steve blain carbon fibre, I think blaine bits sponser this site to get details. Other one is as mentioned kim kosstick at bigstick stocks, my persobal preferance due to shape and timber used. He can be contacted through this website.
I would not swap a fwb for an annie as you will still not have a great stock for BR, if you want to upgrade, Paul Sullivan is importing turbo rimfire actions from the usa, or I bring in Falcon, Stiller, or team 10X actions. Barrel options from me are either benchmark, shilen or rock creek. Not certain how to contact sully but Rob should be able to help.
Dont forget you will need a barrel tunner as well.
Front rest, save and save, and wait and wait for a quality rest, either Seb, from ?, or farley from brt if you want joystick or order a randolf machine rest direct from the usa if you want windage style, I will be ordering one soon.
Hope all that helps regards
Brett
