Wind reading course

John Radford very decently invited a couple of us guys down to Coffs Harbour range to help us with our reading skills.
As John is the world champion IRB shooter it was a opportunity to great to give up and it really was very helpful and a wonderful experience.
I would like to thank John for giving me the chance to learn from his vast experience .

However it did seem to uncover a problem with my BRT eye ball wind gauge .
Actually there is nothing wrong with the gauge just in my positioning of the gauge on the range.
I was shooting my way down the target when all of a sudden the bullet took a violent change of Point of impact.
This didn't happen every shot but to many to be believed it was anything short of a major gun fault.
A different box of ammunition was used and much swearing but it didn't seem to help.
Brett Wilson the gunsmith of the dream rifle was rung in an SOS to help me out with an obvious problem with the ignition.
There was nothing wrong with bolt even though once I got thing apart poor Brett had to talk me through putting it back together.
Seems the problem was I was shooting eye ball, red ball
Which when hit was making a weird sound like the bullet was not firing properly

Now if any of you guys did something so dumb you probably wouldn't tell anybody about it right?
Well I thought I might get in the facts before it gets out cause it was pretty funny.

kind regards Ben
I will post a picture later of the eye ball

Ben I guess Dig wasn't there because you wouldn't live it down if he was.
So I will have a go. The red ball is there to be blown by the wind not blown apart by the shooter.
At least you learnt how to get the bolt back together.

:p Thanks for covering for me Kimbo.

I think Benny came clean first before someone else told the story.

Team KAOS - Catch us if you can! - Ya got no chance
Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Digs wasn't there so that was a bit of luck for me.
Bill S,Barry H and Floody gave it to tonight though at SSAA hunter
Digs hurt his back playing Gof today but I reckon he will be back on song in a couple of days.
Bill
thanks for the tip about ball height I reckon Brett might find this whole thing pretty funny.

Maybe Corny

But at least no one can't say I wasn't on the ball. 8)
The BRT eye ball is a hardy little thing a bit worse for wear but still works fine.
As a matter of fact it probably catches more wind these days then in its original condition.
certainly will be able to always tell which one is mine
Have a very Merry Christmas everyone

Thanks Kim

Its a crazy great time of the year and a real time for Families to get together.
Have a great Christmas mate
I bought myself a shotgun and I see Danny did the same thing.
Weird thing is we both bought exactly same brand and model.
Not going to the dark side or anything just always wanted to have a go at hitting those clays

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Kim and all the other shooters.
Just think Ben, with a scope, a 3 inch fore end and some bb's in the shoty, you and Danny will be able to knock out a IRB target with one shot.
Cheap ammo too.

Plan

Now that sounds like a plan Neil. We can sell the Falcons and turbos and buy a shotty each.
Merry Christmas to you and the Coffs mob.

Does it shoot the red balls better?
On the falcon?

Is it better than the?

Needs a lot of time which I have while on holidays.

I need to get a tuner off Norm that will happen Monday.
At the moment it is shooting 0.2 groups but I haven't played with the action tension yet
Its a spare barrel I purchased off Paul Sullivan he did the gunsmithing on it.
Great guy to deal with as well as a nice bloke.
The Shillen Ratchet that Brett put on rifle is a beauty but it won't last forever and its my backup barrel when it goes off.
I wanted to try a cut barrel to see how it went some guys at Hunter Nats had them and did very well with them.
Forgot what a pain the arse it is to now find ammo it likes etc.
But the groups are mainly all vertical so the tuner should get this baby really shooting.

Like to thank Barry H, Norm and Tony

I asked Barry on 24 th day before Christmas if he could change my barrel for me as I don't have a barrel vise.
No worries Ben he said bring it around fifteen minutes later she was right to go.
I get myself all worked up sometimes about stuff, but this sport has some really decent guys in it.
There is no doubt about that at all.

Thanks Bill
That sounded a bit americian then Billy with the "friend" go with Benny thats the Aussie way
Seems like we add a y to nearly everyones name we like, if we don't like them then its last name only.
Or is it just the fact my last name is A---hole I have problems with it ?
I will ask Brett for one for sure, do you know does he do a barrel clamp as well?
Got the new barrel to shoot a bit better with the action tensions
But really need one of Norms tuners and my calculator out or I am wasting to much ammo
I think this barrel is going to be a good one.

Its called customizing the ball
This way it gets the maximum pick up of the wind from any direction.
Did you think I was just being a dumb arse shooting it up?
Surely you must realise that design is everything in the latest in wind technology .

Heh

Thanks Billy I seem to do my best work on my sighters and when I didn't really want the bullet to go where it went. :~
I think they call it a happy accident.
Kim, yes we are on the same bench the whole way through should be fun, so if you really think that the ball does need an adjustment feel free to fire away.
