Accommodation
Hi All I have been looking at accommodation options and from what I had found, Mutango Lodge seemed to be worth investigating. I drove out this weekend to take a look and found it to be a good option. They are currently booked by the British and Swedish teams and would be pretty much full if the Aussies book in there too. It is well located being literally about 5 minutes drive from the WBC range. Mutango is primarily a conference venue, with a large meeting room and a lot of “chalets” around the perimeter of the property. It’s a pretty nice setting, with the venue backing up to a rocky hill. The accommodation itself is two to five bedrooms off a common area in each chalet. Most of the bedrooms have 2 or 3 single beds, but a couple of rooms seem to have double beds. Each bedroom has its own toilet/bathroom. There is a pool and a bar area and there are several BBQ areas on the site. The rooms are nothing especially flash, but Mutango does offer the best price I have been able to find. However it is worth bearing in mind that there may be slightly less privacy with a room either side of the common area than you might find in say a hotel room opposite each other over a hall way. Mutango is offering bed and breakfast for those sharing a room at 411 rand per head and for those in a room on their own at 479 rand. Both these rates are inclusive of tax. They are also happy to cater to dinner on nights that we might want to dine in (obviously at additional cost). I have taken some photos to try to give some idea of the venue and chalet layout. These two pictures are examples of the bedrooms. This shows the common area in the middle of a two bedroom chalet This shows the common area in the middle of a five bedroom chalet This is a bathroom from one of the rooms This is the outside of one of the chalet buildings This is the pool area. The bar is behind me from where I am taking this picture and there is a pool table next to the bar. There is a BBQ area about 20 meters from the pool.

Rob, re your security question

Rob

Re your security question, its pretty much a non-issue here. This area is well away from any town and that is where you may encounter a problem. There is poverty all over the country and you wouldn’t want to leave valuables lying around the chalet, but you are unlikely to feel any personal security threat at all in this area. Even in Johannesburg or other big cities, its only the less well off areas that are likely to be an issue.

Problem with website

Rob, How do we get rid of this annoying links bar in front of most of the text Rob?

This seems to happen on a few pages on the site and now occurs on this page too. Whether we are logged in or not the left hand links bar moves over covers most of the text field. It is not just our computer as I get it at the QGE when I view from there also! :)

Looks good to me. I think

Looks good to me.
I think that it is important that we all stay fairly close together, as transport to the range, etc., will be easier that way.

Put me down for a room with a double bed if possible (I might get lucky!)

Booking

I have made a tentative booking with the manager at Mutango and he is happy to hold this until the end of the week (and probably longer) with no obligation on our part. I will make contact with him to confirm how we get him a deposit to lock the booking in.

Accommodation Dates?

Hi All,

Before everyone gets all excited about what dates they do and do not need for accommodation, I thought I should point out I have/will submit paper work for sponsorship with Qantas. We may or may not get something.

I would think that if we do get flight assistance or baggage assistance it will be leaving from Sydney as these are the only direct 100% Qantas operated flights.
I had a look when these leave and it would be Monday 15th June and you could return on Monday 29th June at the earliest.
The 100% operated Qantas flights that leave Joburg are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so keep that in mind.

I will endeavour to try and get a Yes or No from Qantas by Christmas.

Hopefully everyone can wait until then

Michael
