Barry is still negotiating with the Brisbane Club for Rimfire dates. It is anticipated that Rimfire be held over 2 days - one for Light and one for Heavy. Probably Wed & Thurs before - they also need a practice day for centrefires before those events which start from Sat onwards.
We'll keep you posted.
Latest info from Barry is that the Belmont site users (that's all of the clubs and organisations using the Belmont shooting templates) have a policy of no centrefires on Good Friday. This means that the Rimfire will have to be held on Good Friday. Also it has been decided to have only one day for Rimfire. The centrefire will start on Sat with Exp, followed by SP, LV and finally HV on Tuesday.
Am i missing something?? To me it is ---Wednesday/practice---Thursday/Light Rimfire---Friday/Heavy Rimfire---then the next 4 days for centrefire--i would suggest--- Light c/fire/Saturday---Heavy/Sunday--- Experimental/Monday and Sporter on Tuesday---is there a problem??. I am sure to have missed something here??. John.
Wed 8th Practice
Thurs 9th Practice
Fri 10th Rimfire (both Classses)
Sat 11th Experimental
Sun 12th Sporter
Mon 13th Light Varmint
Tues 14th Heavy Varmint
I see that rimfire shooters get the rough end of the stick again having to try and shoot two different classes on the same day. They have run this sort of event before at the State titles at Belmont a couple of years ago and it was not an enjoyable shoot. Why do we need to have 2 days of practice? The rimfire can be run over two days and make it a great event and still have a day for practice.
Hi Greg
I agree with you travelling for one day's Rimfire shoot if that's all you shoot is not worth the bother and cost, you will not enjoy being rushed for one day. A lot of people forget about that there are a lot more of rimfire shooters out there than centrefire shooters. It's like when they have a 2 gun in hunter class, there should be a 2 gun for light and heavy rimfire and a 2 gun light and heavy centrefire and then a 2 gun light rimfire and light centrefire and same for heavy, and the 4 gun. If you don't do all classes it is hard to compete and a lot of people only do half of the shoots so they are out of the running. (:Go rimfire shooters:)
Cheers Ken
Have done this back in 2002 and swore then never to do it again.
Not only are you continuously on the go you are swapping from 6X to 36X from 2.25" Front bag to 3" front Bag is just not on.
Have just aquired a centerfire and was planing to shoot 4 events but no way am i shooting light & heavy Rimfire on one day.
Why 2 practice days surely with the amount of benches Rimfire and Centerfire could practice on one day. Or shoot sporter and experimental on the one day.
Yes i know we are running out of times or dates to run championship shoots that dont conflict with others But as with the shoot in Italy just recently there is more than one class so how long before we start a lighter Class in IRB so we can use both our rifles.
As to the Light & Custom R/F being on the one day unless you have two rests with two different front bags or possably two tops for your front rest you would be forever changing front bags.
This is a NATIONAl comp and should be treated as such with each catagory haveing its own day for comp.
We all know when its on and is a major comp so have 12 months to plan ahead and make the time.
Come on Bill Lets sort out the rime-Fire at the national before worring about Quals for IRB/RBA
Are Nominations for the Nationals in Brisbane started yet as i see the Australia Day shoot is over subscribed.
If the Rim-fire is shot on seperate days i will shoot both Plus maybe all the centerfire depending on Nom fees? But with Pensioner discount and Mr Rudd helping pay he did say he wanted me to spend it.
The BR Nationals are always held at Easter....no conspiracy....considering the TRA Nationals arn't a SSAA discipline I don't think anyone really cares or knows if they clash.

With an agenda item going to the 2009 National AGM to give Rimfire shooters a combined Group/IRB four day comp starting 2010 -
Will two classes be available in each discipline?
Will IRB follow SSAA group rules as per weight/stock/scope and mag requirements?
Are there any plans to give Rimfire benchrest shooters their own stand alone committee to determine future directions?
