Banana Coast IRB Champs

The first rimfire event for the year is over and look who back on the top of the again. Seems you cannot keep a good man down even after a trying week in his personal life. We tried but Sully hung in there for the overall win and the number 1 position of the shooter of the year list. Congratulations to all the winners but in the end it seemed to the the Glen and Sully show at the presentations.

The event was also the first under the new 20 minute time limit. Not much of a problem for those of us who shoot RBA comps but a couple of the SSAA shooters struggled with the shorter format. Thankfully for them the World Titles in Spain will be contested under the current rule which stipulates 30 minutes so they have a little bit of time to get used the the 20 minutes. With 4 details and 3 card per day, the shorter time cut 2 hours from the days shooting. Presentation over on Sunday and all the Queenslanders were back in Brisbane by 6pm. Of course the 1 hour daylight saving assisted also but we take that for granted in God’s country. With shooting over for the day around 1pm on Saturday, Billy even had time to teach Sully to fly a drone back at the property where we were staying. I should have taken a photo of him, sitting in a camp chair with a set of virtual reality goggles fastened to his head chasing Ibis around the property dam some 300 metres away. Ever since his 70th birthday, he seems to be getting younger every day.

As a side event 14 of us played a side game of 10 Shot on the Sunday. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the rules it’s basically a dot game using the standard IRB target. Hit the dot and get 4 points. Take the dot out and you get 6 points. Shoot a Benny “yea baby” and its 10 points on the score card. A hole anywhere else in the target gets you zero, zip, zilch, nyet, nada or nothing. The game was developed in the US to take out the incessant chase for absolute killer ammo by accommodating the occasional flyer which doesn't knock you around so much. It’s possible to drop 3 or 4 points and still win a 10 Shot card, provided the rest smash the dot. In fact only one 1 of the 3 10 Shot winners was the top IRB score on the same target.
With 6 points between the top 5 after 2 days the competition was on until the end of the last card.

After 23 10s my 24th shot was a 6. Yep a 6. Thankfully the last one was a 10 or I would have been jumped by Greg as he smashed me on dots. Have no idea why but I’ll be philosophical and put it down to could have, should have but didn’t.

I did leave a winner however as I picked up Uncle Nick’s old powder thrower from the For Sale table. It’s a B&R thrower Serial number 11. I’m told Bill Jupp had something to do with their manufacture year’s ago so if anyone knows more of their history, I’d be glad to hear the story. I’ve already had offer of $150 over what I paid for it but it isn’t going anywhere. Not only is it a good thrower, it’s also kinda nice to have something of Nick’s sitting in my centrefire loading box.

Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of them. I'll email Billo to see if he still has a copy of the results on the laptop.

Rule change

Wally
The rule changes were approved at a meeting on the last week-end in February. I imagine it will take a while to get them up on line but I'd expect that to have occured by the 18th. If you have any queries you should contact Gavin Marshall, the Qld discipline chair
