One of the real characters of Australian benchrest, Alan Dettmer died in his sleep on September 15 2014.
Alan was an active benchrester in the 80s and 90s with some very high placings achieved, particularly at Australia Day.
Known affectionately as "The Liverpool Stud" after his divorce, Alan was a wealth of knowledge for new shooters and always glad to share a cup of coffee and a cigarette with anyone.
After a second marriage, Alan moved to Thailand with his wife and retired from shooting.
He will be fondly remembered, particularly by me.
Rob.
Well that is a shame.
I well remember Alan Dettmer as the man in the blue truckies singlet, amusing us with his tales of prowess with the female sex.
He was a good shooter too.
RIP mate
There was never a dull moment when Alan was at a match. Very well remembered as good bloke who enjoyed sharing his knowledge of shooting and life with anyone. He has been missed since departing our shores. RIP Alan.

Alan was always good for a laugh, joke or a funny story mostly about himself.
We are diminished by his passing.
RIP Alan
