I am very sad to advise Steve Sori passed away early this morning. (8/10/23)
Steve had fought a tough battle with cancer for the best part of a year and is now at rest.
Steve (HOF23) was known to anybody and everybody who had shot CF BR in Australia. His competitive spirit was always balanced with a good nature and politeness unmatched in our sport.
Steve was also known for his pursuit of excellence not only in his shooting skills but also as a machinist.
He was my friend for just on half a century and will be sadly missed by many.
RIP Steve

Very sad to hear of Steve's passing.
He was at the pinnacle of our sport for many years, and was a former world record holder in experimental class.
RIP mate.

The dreaded, but not unexpected, phone call came in the AM of 8th October advising of the passing of Steve Sori. The Benchrest community has undergone another loss and to say we are diminished is an understatement.
First met Steve in 1978 and in the intervening years privileged to enjoy affinity on many levels the most important friendship. Steve's first Benchrest match was at the Illawarra range Dapto and driven by his quest for accuracy went on to earn bigger and more prestigious accolades. He amassed numerous State and National records and titles culminating in Benchrest Hall of Fame in 2003 as #23. However his most outstanding achievement was being recognised as a World record holder setting the mark at World Benchrest Championships in 2017 in New Zealand.
Steve's prowess as a competitor and skilled machinist reached legendary status at Pacific Regional and World titles where he represented Australia proudly as a competitor and assistant to other team members ensuring they were well prepared. In 2013 was an integral part of the behind the scene team who ensured the World Championships ran well over standard as well as overseering the range and facilities were at an optimum.
We spoke regularly about many aspects of not only shooting but life in general and was a confidant who provided much moral support and advice. A true gentleman whose absence will be felt not only personally but in the wider community.
Thoughts and prayers are with Mariana, Robert, Sophia and his fur mate Smokey.
No more suffering - RIP Steve

Today on a personal level I lost a mate and most of all a mentor.
Steve had the patience and the willingness to spend time teaching not only myself but also my wife Brenda the finer points of trying to shoot well in this crazy discipline
I only new him for six years which to many who new him is small in comparison but he was willing to share a life time of knowledge with us both
For both myself and Brenda we will always treasure the times we spent with Steve.
He will be sadly missed by all who had the opportunities to get close to him .
Rest old mate . Chris and Brenda
Our thought s go out to his family
Very sad to hear of Steve's passing.
We spoke often on the phone, and he rang me before last Xmas to say that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I too have cancer, and we compared notes etc for some time. As the months went by it was obvious that it was not going well for him, and that led to the inevitable.
A very sad moment for all that knew this man. I am proud to say that he was my friend.
The sport is diminished.
It is a very sad day for me, Steve was a great friend and mentor. It is because of him that I started in this great sport. We spent many days at Silverdale and many hours on the road together. He taught me most of what I know about BR shooting.
He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace my friend.
Very sad to hear of Steve's passing.
Cancer can be so relentless and unforgiving.
He has been taken way too early and the
Benchrest Discipline is truly diminished.
Condolences to his family during this difficult time
