OK this isn't my idea but I think it is a good one.
How about lots of photos of your gear with a brief explanation as to why you chose it and the pros and cons.
If you were starting again would you still choose the same gear.
This will also help any newbies who are so confused with the vast array of equipment available and how long it might take to get it into the country (present situation probably won't help).
I will get some photos up soon.

As above only 7 rifles and 1 pistol I must say I thought a lot more of the more advanced and hall of fame shooters would have posted their rifles up for us the less experienced shooters would be able to take in what everyone uses so we have more of an idea of what to save fore for that build we all wont I know it took me a long time and a lot of state shoots to finally build the one I wonted

Cheers all happy Easter

+1 for 2500X

Action: Stiller 2500X
Barrel: Shilen Ratchet
Stock: SPF (Stiller) Laminated Timber (pillar bedded)
Trigger: Jewel
Tuner: Harrells + wheel weights
Mid Barrel Tuner: Pappas
Bloop Tube: Micky T
Rings: Harrells
Rail: Redback (modified)
Scope: Nightforce Competition 15-55x
Ammo: Eley Black

Pros: Not as fussy with ammo compared to all other 22lr benchrest rifles I’ve ever owned. Very slick action and very fast to feed with an excellent loading ramp setup. I love the low profile of the Stiller parallel stock which tracks very nicely in the bags. Have won the heavy rimfire class at the Benchrest for Score nationals for the past 2 years with this rifle. It also holds the current Australian record for a single IRB target (not set by me btw).

Cons: One con (if you could call it that), would be the amount of time and effort I spent tweaking and tuning this rifle into the laser it is today.... which leads into the only other con, which is that I can no longer blame the rifle when I don’t shoot well. :-)

Would I buy the same again?: Most definitely. Wouldn’t think twice about getting a Stiller 2500X action. Would again go with a Shilen Ratchet barrel. Jewel trigger (or perhaps B&A - although I’ve never tried one). Same stock, but I’d be inclined to try a Huntsman tuner next time. I have a lite one on my light rifle and it’s a very nice tuner. I like that you can better lock the setting in place with a Huntsman compared to a Harrells.

Chris.

Thanks

Thanks guys for taking the time to write your stories. I hope the info will be useful for some new shooters and even experienced shooters wanting to upgrade. I was really hoping for more but I guess some people don't want to share.

Light Rifle

Great post Kim.
It's definitely a great idea for newbies wanting to get into our sport to know what type of gear we all use.
Here's the run down on my light rifle.
This rifle has won me my fair share of comps over the years and definitely proves that one doesn't have to spend a fortune to compete but I will add that the rifle is only part of the package. There's a hell of a lot more to it which could possibly be talked about in another thread.
Action: Sako Quad
Barrel: Drop in 6 groove Lilja with Eley EPS chamber
Stock: Kelbly style Hunterclass
Bedding: Glued
Trigger: Jewel (modified)
Tuner: Lowey (no weight)
Rings: Kelbly (modified)
Scope: Weaver Grandslam 6-20X40
Ammo: Eley Black

Now for the interesting info.
The Sako Quad is a single lug action and has a 12 o'clock firing pin position. Go figure lol

Cheers Mick

Well that just won't do. A single lug , a 12 o'clock pin , and it's old.

Funny

That was my attempt at being funny.
I guess it wasn't as funny as I thought. Sorry Mick.
Mick is correct in saying there are no rules as to what shoots well, it's usually a case of the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.
Sometimes it's your ability to read the wind that lets you down not your gear.
As Chris said earlier he knows the rifle is a laser and if it misses it's his fault

My Rifle

So far it has only been rimfire rifles put up so far.
So here is my center fire benchrest rifle.
Action: XP100
Brarrel: Kreiger fluted
Trigger: Jewel
Scope: 36x weaver
Stock: Lee six

I bought this setup about 18 months ago, to get myself started in benchrest. It is a sporter weight rifle. First time I shot it was the 2019 Harry Madden, literally fireformed the cases on the Friday practice.
I have recently invested in 2 new barrels, a light and a heavy. Including changing from .262nk to .270nk.
The stock is currently in primer and waiting for some colour. No more TAXI yellow.
Looking forward to getting it back on the range.
Jeff.
